Seaside hues for the guest bedroom
I have always had a penchant for the cooler shades for interiors, particularly those that remind me of coastal walks. Pale greys, stone, sand, the grasses that grow on dunes and the pale green of succulents, the shades of turbulent seas, the colour of the seabirds against a pale sky. One of my favourite websites for colour palettes is Design Seeds, this one is called Seaside Hues and is a great starting point for my design.
It is tempting to go with white in sunny climes, it seems like the perfect cool foil for the heat of the summer sun. Indeed our house here was white from head to toe inside when we first arrived. I left it like that and am teasing it into the shades I love slowly. These things can’t be rushed. In the guest bedroom I have left the ceiling and opposite walls white to contrast with the wardrobes which have been given a coat of mid grey chalkboard paint.
I bought this French rococo style headboard from one of the big second hand warehouses we have here.
All shiny gloss, tatty wicker and gold paint it was soon transformed with a pale grey chalk paint. The finished room also features two side cupboards (with space for your potty should you be living in the 19th century!) These have also been painted in the same shade as the wardrobes. Looking through the bedroom to the ensuite you can see that the half tiling is a very dark grey and the ceramic floors throughout the house are a mottled grey so the colours flow nicely. Tying in the colours I have chosen a pale blue patterned bedspread over the Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet, a grey wool throw and grey patterned cushions. Fluffy white towels and we are good to go with the next visitors.
