Bramleys
I love the fresh and local produce we enjoy here in Catalunya but there are certain things I miss one of those is a good cooking apple. Here they use massive golden delicious but I find they are not so great for stewing and rather leathery in a pie or crumble. So I did my homework and found it is perfectly ok to grow a Bramley here, unlike other varieties Bramley have to be grown on stock not from seed. We planted two last year and we got precisely 5 apples, not bad for a first year.
This year we harvested more than two dozen
Out of those we got one huge apple pie, sorry no photos it got gobbled up before it was cold!
I did, however, get four decent sized jars of apple sauce made
I also planted a locally grown pear tree, a lemon tree, a couple of plum trees and a fig. So far I have one sad and solitary fig. Going to have do some more homework and see if there is anything I can be doing to jolly them along!
