The Pop-Up is back!

*
Here we are the end of summer and the Pop-Up Artisans are back. Our focus through these lovely months of autumn is to get hygge with it!

If you’ve not come across this expression before it simply means in Danish “to give courage, comfort and joy” and is synonymous with warmth, cosyness, hugs and love.

If you are still confused at how these words can be reflected in your life you need to consider that it’s all about creating a lifestyle that makes you feel happy and gives you a sense of wellbeing. It’s about finding deeper meaning, being mindful. It’s not about expensive purchases or great wealth it’s about finding gems in the everyday, spending time with people who make you feel happy, kinship.
If this last two years has shown us anything it is an appreciation of the simpler things. After days, weeks or for some of us months of confinement hygge is a way to survive boredom, the sameness when it is so easy to become demotivated and depressed. By practicing hygge principles you find ways to celebrate the simple joyous moments. That might be the art of making a fresh pot of tea, with real tea leaves and drinking it from a china cup. Or the smell of the coffee as it brews. Lighting a candle at the dinner table. Spending those moments with family and friends, laughing or crying, hugging, there has been so little of that in recent times!

Pulling on a pair of thick woolly socks and curling up with a blanket and a good book. It’s about taking a walk as the dawn is breaking, closing your eyes with the warm summer sun on your face listening to birdsong or sitting on the terrace as the night is falling. It’s the sound of the rumble of thunder, the pouring rain, the crash of waves.
It’s about balance and allowing yourself treats like a good piece of pie or cake, the smell of baking bread, the tang of sweet pickle with a good strong cheese, sweet seville marmalade on freshly baked bread. Everything should be savoured, each little moment treasured, every purchase considered.
On my Facebook profile I have the words “Enjoying the little things because looking back I realise those moments were the best” it’s a mantra I have come to cherish. I am so grateful to live where I live with my soulmate and best friend and although, like everyone I have had my trials and tribulations I am thankful everyday for what I have and what I have been able to achieve.

The principle of hygge fits so well with our Pop-Up Artisan group, each of us puts much more than materials and effort into our products and creations, we add heart and soul, we re-use, recycle and repurpose to bring new life to old things. When someone buys an item from one of our Artisan’s they are giving a new home to a unique or bespoke piece that has been lovingly crafted.

Over the next few weeks we will be bringing you lots of new products made with all those ideas in mind, for you, gifts for your favourite people and for your home.

So watch this space!

PS I do have a confession to make the word hygge is actually pronounced hue-guh, I used a little artistic licence in the tag line!
