Table tops
In between the ridiculously hot scorching weather making it virtually impossible to do anything outside after 10am and my handyman Mick being otherwise engaged literally only started putting the table renovations together today. Wood had been cut off site so screwing the bits of the jigsaw puzzle together was simple enough. However, somewhere along the line our measurements were a tad awry a bit of trimming was required here and there so we could get the tiles to fit.
I love it when plan comes together. Ply top fixed in place and side trim attached to the depth of the tiles gives me a really lovely flat surface to cement and grout. It really is like doing a jigsaw!
Of course using recycled materials, the white tiles, there is never going to be an easy way to match up which is why I chose the heritage square tiles so I did’t need to be precious about lining up the edges. The white tiles are 20cm and the square tiles come in a 30 x 30 cm pack of 16. However, with a bit of jiggery pokery I got a layout I was happy with.
It required a bit of guesswork to get the right amount of the patterned tiles so I need to nip to the hardware store to get another pack as am just one pack short. but its too hot now to start cementing and grouting it woiuld be dry before I laid a tile! It did get me thinking that I could make a smaller table top version to go on the sofa table, which doubles up as an extra seat, it would act like a big tray and could be lifted on and off.
Anyway this is progress so far, just those few tiles to source then its on with painting before tiling. In true Spanish style it will be continued manana!
