Early Autumn wardrobe

I’ve not given up on summer yet even though we are at the end of the first week of October, we had a lovely balmy 25C the last couple of days, warm enough to sunbathe although the sun is very low so not sure those rays are topping up my tan but at least we are getting our daily dose of Vitamin D. If the reports are to be believed aids protection against colds and flu and hopefully the dreaded virus. I might still get away with wearing my linen but I’ll need to cover up with a cardi and even add a scarf on those chilly evenings.

I haven’t bought any new clothes this year, or second hand either. There have been very few Brocanter markets, shops have been closed and with a much depleted social life I’ve pretty much worn the same outfits all summer long. Now the chalet is buttoned up for the winter I’ve started to concentrate on the house and garden. First up my wardrobes. A proper sort out was definitely needed. I might not be in the market for a whole new wardrobe but I am thinking about treating myself to a few new pieces for the autumn winter period. My tastes are fairly neutral. I like monochromatic, black is my friend but I do have a soft spot for muted shades like dusky blues and greys.

I might even splash out on a washed out red, a hint of raspberry alongside a neutral grey. This is well out of my comfort zone but every season I do try to be a bit adventurous. One summer I bought a dress with a really, really big bright yellow and black pattern and I wore it out which surprised me. Maybe raspberry is this seasons yellow for me!

Of course I won’t be abandoning my monochromatic favourites black and white or cream, sunglasses still required and a sassy zebra print shoes is a must for the days when I want to unleash my inner diva. I have a rather expensive calf skin zebra print bag I bought many years ago, Dolce and Gabbana zebra print shades and I also have an oversized zebra knitted cardigan which is one of my winter staples. I might not be one for bright colours but I do love an animal print. Obviously not all worn at the same time, that would just be too outre!

Need to be prepared for the rainy days to come and I will mix it up with mossy, khaki or sludgy greens. I need a jacket just like this to fit over big chunky knits on the really chilly, wet days and I’m definitely on the look out for a mid calf flat black boot.

Although we are leaving the long hot summer days behind I never really mind, I rather like the whole hygge thing of being out in the nippy air and then hunkering down in the cosy. A change is as good as a rest they say!
