Colour, patina and texture
Nothing shows off a modern architectural piece of furniture better than old architecture. The juxtaposition of the clean smooth lines of the loveseat against the bare stripped walls of this old chateaux with its doorways leading to other rooms and the light picking out the pale grey blue fabric is just beautiful.
Unless you live in a crumbling old chateaux this might be a tad difficult to pull off but pairing old with new is a great way to make things stand out. My recommendation is to keep backgrounds neutral and monochrome and let the pieces do the talking. If you want to add colour, think about a wall in an unusual colour, wallpapered with the latest trend for creature paper, I love this old Anthropology paper out of stock but lots of similar on line. If its expensive think of buying one roll and framing it in shabbied frames.
I would pair a new structural sofa with something like these linen cushions in washed out shades. Don’t be afraid of bringing more feminine colours in dusky pink and burgundy, seen here in the pouffe cushions and the paint, they take on a different look in a room with industrial greys, blacks and strong architectural lines in the furniture.
