New clobber and winter prep
You know what it’s like the weather takes a turn, it’s always the same at this time of year. We have our annual St Narcis festival, which lasts 10 days, first weekend and the beginning of the week we are walking round in t-shirts, shorts and flip flops, second weekend its definitely layers and someone has posted that there is snow on them thar mountains on FB!
Suddenly my ads in my social media are throwing up hats and scarves and boots. Oh why do they have to show boots, am a sucker for footwear. A particularly not me pair of Birkenstock shearling (wool) slip on raspberry red pixie boots, are they a slipper or something you can wear outside I ponder, so off I go down the shopping channels rabbit hole. I came out the other side, like Alice, sat on my tush finding I had ordered some boots, a new backpack bag, two long tunic knitted tops and a plethora, yes a veritable plethora of new black leggings.
This is they and not a shade of berry red in sight. I shall have to rectify that and get something raspberry I think as an accessory, Well what else has a girl to do on a chilly November day but plan her wardrobe for the next two months waiting for flip flop weather again? That last bit is actually not true, I do revel in the fact I get to put on my winter woollies, my soft cardis, wrap up snug as a bug in a rug with fleecy lined footwear and don’t even get me started on the food that I want to cook. This week I will be finishing off sorting out the kitchen cupboards and making the Christmas cake, as always am on the backfoot and it’s my speedy Delia Smith recipe tweak that gets an airing. One thing about living in Catalunya, northern Spain, is the proximity of colder climes and the Pyrenees which makes for a good old fashioned snowy landscape and a short but sharp winter.
I actually did have to plan ahead a tad this year what with Brexit cocking up the availability of various things we normally have. Notably – Quality Street, Roses and a tub of Celebrations, Christmas crackers (a box of 12 lasts us three years), some new extra large Christmas baubles for outdoor decor to go with the Asda sparkling rainfall lights. I also managed to get my paws on two gammon hams, haggis, pearl barley and a whole spice world of indian, asian and middle eastern spices. So, yes, winter is a welcome change.
